    I’m on day 13 of the TWT. I was utterly carb & sugar dependent before the test & although I noticed my energy levels have been much more stable than when consuming carbs I have also felt fatigued. I’m vegetarian & don’t normally eat cheese or many eggs so have done during this time, & I’ve eaten tons of nuts. I don’t think I’ve lost any weight or any body fat I’m not sure if I put any on as the weighing machine at my gym has been broken the last few days. I’ve done a small amount of exercise, but not much, which is currently the norm.

The cramps began immediately after lifting my back off the ground.     Ivan, after writing this I came down with the flu so I guess that might go someway to explaining it. Anyway, a little after the 2 weeks, things stabilised and I am now adding some of the carbs back in without any ill effects. The strange thing for me is that whilst I am not experiencing the intense cravings, I am also not really enjoying eating. Foods that I have always loved such as steak no longer hold the same appeal. It is like without all the sugar, my body is relearning how to relate to food. I am interested in seeing where I end up.
    Let’s focus on this: your energy levels weren’t being sustained by your aerobic metabolism. When you challenge your metabolism with exercise when you don’t have a lot of carbs to use for fuel, two things happen: your athletic output (which, in your case, depended on carbs) drops because you only have fats to burn, and your energy levels also drop because when your fat-burning metabolism gets exhausted, there’s no other energy system to pick up the slack: even though the anaerobic (sugar-burning) metabolism isn’t exhausted, it doesn’t have any fuel to burn.
    After all, when you run out of calories too early to go out to dinner with friends or satisfy a bedtime craving, you’re more likely to fall victim to what Dr. Seltzer calls the “f*ck it” effect—when you break one “rule” and give up for the rest of the night.
