To what extent should the two-week MAF test be different from what you are recommended to eat afterwards? What about brown rice, whole-wheat pasta and fruits during and after the two-week test? And finally, what would you recommend as a good nutrition strategy in the week before a marathon?
There are many great tools you can use to track the number of calories you are eating. Here is a list of 5 calorie counters that are free and easy to use. When I went on a low starch, no fruit, no sugar, no processed food Candida diet (which cleared ALL my chronic years worth of symptoms within only one week!) I had to rely on the following for my calories -> artichoke hearts in olive, coconut oil, coconut milk, avocados, olives and almonds. It was essentially a low starch diet. Once I completed the diet I later added in sundried tomatoes in olive oil every 2-3 days (but they are much higher in sugar than the other foods) and some other veg like pumpkin and squashes (which I wasn’t allowed to start with). At the time I wasn’t vegan and ate a couple of eggs a day. I want to go back to his low starch diet now as I felt fantastic on it, but now as a vegan and also doing much more exercise I’ll have to add more fat and protein from avocados, nuts and coconut collaborative natural yoghurt instead of the eggs. Sun Warrior protein powder also has 0g of sugar per scope (4g carbs) and so I will add this in, perhaps with diluted coconut milk…

    Intermittent fasting is acceptable. It’s just hard for athletes to fit into a training strategy unless you have a very specific physiological reason to do so. It’s very, very easy to screw up your energy levels or your recovery from a training week if you do it incorrectly—or alternately, you might recover fine and have decent energy levels, but be prevented from really increasing your training volume in the way you might want. For a normally active person, it can work just fine.
