    No. The reason people who lose weight during the TWT is because they are overweight. What the TWT does is it helps fix the body’s energy metabolism. It’s not possible to have a healthy metabolism and to be underweight in an unhealthy sense.

    One piece of advice I can give you is to front-load fats and protein during breakfast (without completely neglecting carbs: for example, a tomato-avocado-onion-bacon omelet). This will increase your levels of a hormone called leptin, which kicks up fat-burning and suppresses appetite. By doing this at breakfast, you’ll spend more of the day with increased levels of leptin.

    Track your progress with either a written or electronic journal. Measure and write down what you eat, at least for the first month or so. I use a software program called Fitday to track calories, fat, carbs and protein intake. It’s a great program because I can add custom foods to it, and track those accurately as well. For instance, if I make a low carb casserole, I can put the ingredients and servings into Fitday and then when I add one serving to my daily totals, it accurately calculates the actual calories, carbs, fat and protein amounts.

The above comments suggested to me that yogurt was not okay during the TWT. (See the July 22 comment to Joanne.) I have eaten eggs, cheese, and sour cream during the test. I actually started over because the first couple days I had full fat yogurt along with just a strawberry or two.

  6. Thanks for your thorough reply, Ivan. Yes, it was pumpkin seeds, but with the shells (they have some carbs, as we discussed earlier). And, I think I’ve thought of some reasons why things went as they did for me. I think the second week my water intake might have been too little. I usually measure it, and I didn’t that week because—-you guessed it—there was some additional stress that week, and some less sleep. Also, I have not been as physically active the past couple of years as I used to be, and need to be moving more. I think maybe all of these things combined could explain it. Good to know the cheese is not a likely culprit. I stuck closely to the right foods, I think. Wonder if the pumpkin seeds with shells could have affected it. Okay, I think I know what to do from here. Many thanks, Ivan!

    Is yogurt on the “May Not Eat” list for the two week test because it tends to have sugars? I have a heavily strained plain Greek yogurt that has nearly zero carbs, would that be permitted? Also, is a cottage cheese permitted? I realize it’s not an aged cheese but it has nearly zero carbs as well. Just thinking through options. Thank you
