Among noncompetitive runners, I am very fast. If I told you just how much I walk, you’d be amazed: about 30-45 minutes a day. And on top of that, I run slowly at my MAF heart rate for about an hour. On top of that I do flexibility and functional training, as well as jumping rope, for about another hour. When I take that huge aerobic base and apply it to my interval workouts, half an hour per week, it pays dividends in speed.

  5. thank you for your time and patience answering all the questions. I’m about half way reading this page (pretty long), and have learned quite a bit. Today is my last day on the TWT – I’ve notice a lot of positive changes. The only drawback for me was getting 1 to 2 minutes per mile slower at MAF than before I started the test – granted it’s been pretty hot recently.
    That said, you can make massive strength gains in 2 months, so one thing you could do is focus on building your aerobic base up until the end of March. I’d recommend that during this period, 90-95% of your training happen under the MAF HR. While running should make up the bulk of your MAF training, you can also do race-specific or sports-specific high-rep bodyweight exercises while staying under your MAF HR. (Running is also a high-rep bodyweight exercise). So, you can use the base-building period to develop skills, and at the beginning of April start including more strength training, so that 75-80% of your training is under the MAF HR, and 20-25% over.

    Now you know how to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks, a month or 2 months. You have all the tools that you need in your toolbox to plan and execute your own unique method for losing 20 pounds fast. So, how should you go about it?
    My question is can’t I just skip the 2 week test? I know I’ll feel better, and react well. I feel I’ll benefit much more going straight into MAF diet with good fats.
