It’s not just great for your body, but also a quick way to shed some extra pounds. “Consider swapping a few meat-centric meals each week for ones centered around vegetarian proteins — or give a full-fledged vegetarian diet a try if that’s of interest to you,” Gorin says. “Research shows eating a vegetarian diet may boost and speed up weight loss, resulting in a loss of up to 10 pounds.” Gorin recommends topping a salad or filling a veggie taco with vegetarian protein sources like pulses — which are beans, chickpeas, lentils, and dried peas — to give your weight loss a boost. One study found eating ¾ cup of pulses daily led to a loss of close to a pound over about six weeks, versus people not eating pulses daily.

    OH! & I meant to ask if Shakeology shakes would be okay in the 2 Week Test? I have been using them since 2013. They are a great breakfast or snack option. I haven’t had any this week as I was unsure – erred on the side of caution.
    Weight loss isn’t a linear event over time. When you cut calories, you may drop weight for the first few weeks, for example, and then something changes. You eat the same number of calories but you lose less weight or no weight at all. That’s because when you lose weight you’re losing water and lean tissue as well as fat, your metabolism slows, and your body changes in other ways. So, in order to continue dropping weight each week, you need to continue cutting calories.
    That answer is incredibly helpful. I went out to run yesterday and the day before. I’ve been running using the MAF heartrate for a month, but day before yesterday I just could not keep the heartrate down and had to walk much, much more than usual. No big deal. I figured it was still a good workout. Then yesterday, I really felt lousy and woozy on my run. Today I took a rest day. I’m curious what will go on tomorrow. This is quite the learning experience.

    Hi, I am a long time follower of Phil’s training method. However, I only recently — 7 days ago — dug in for the 14 day test, suspecting I have some degree of carbohydrate intolerance (and being a well practiced sugar addict). I am BLOWN AWAY 7 days in from one metric alone: my blood pressure. On Day 1 it was 134/85; today it is 108/69. I am so stoked. I learned of my 130s blood pressure at the Leadville 100 in 2000 (pre-race check), was really surprised given my high level of fitness, and resigned that it was “who I was.” Of course, I ate high card/low fat at the time.     I’ve been a runner all my life and naturally thin. I run anywhere from 15-30 miles per week depending on the time of year, don’t usually train for anything longer than a half marathon to 15-16 mile race. I’ve never really had symptoms of carb intolerance but have wanted to try the two week test to help my body transition to more fat burning while I’m running. I have been using the 180 method off and on (mostly on) for the past year and had good results getting my per mile pace down to 10 to 11 min miles. (Until I go no-carb and then my HR goes crazy on my runs and I have to go back to 14 min miles)
    Get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep stimulates your appetite so you want more food than normal; at the same time, it stops you feeling satisfied, making you want to keep eating. Sleep deprivation can also affect your motivation, so aim for eight hours of quality sleep a night.

    I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean to say that you feel full but are still hungry? If this is happening, it’s because your body has simultaneously very little stored glycogen (sugar) but is also feeling full due to an appropriate fat content. Has this changed since you last commented?
