What’s the effect physiologically? Does my body just burn those carbs first and then slip back into fat-burning mode or have I somehow undone everything that led to that point, leaving me back at square one?

PLENTY of other stuff matters. What I AM saying is that the deficit is always what matters most. Take that away and no fat will ever be lost regardless of everything else. On the other hand, put the deficit in place and completely screw up the rest and guess what? Fat will still be lost 100% of the time.

My baby’s first birthday was on the calendar, and the closer that it came, the more antsy I got try to lose some weight. I know that there are plenty of people who will tell me to be patient with the baby weight, to just eat healthy and it’ll come off, to keep nursing, all kinds of things along those lines. In the past those tips have worked for me, but a few things have changed for me, and they have stopped working. It was time for me to do something. A big something.

am starting this 2 week test, well tomorrow. I have noticed that some of the comments here have a common theme of frustration and thought that I would combine my post with some questions and hopefully a positive experience. I am a 53 year old woman and followed the MAF method 5 years ago. I went from an 8:08 kilometer to a 6:45 kilometer in six months while keeping my HR under 150 bpm. Looking back it was an achievement that I didn’t appreciate but should have. It was very discouraging and I lost interest at not being able to run at a pace I wanted. No one else I knew ran as slow and I found myself doing all my training alone as a result. I am older and wiser now and am trying to keep my HR under 140 bpm. I figured that if I was going to try this I would try for the lower heart rate, more in line with the MAF method. I do realize that I should be about five BPM slower but I cannot even simulate a running motion at that HR. I am not willing to lose the strength and health benefits I have achieved at the gym so I am going to have to accept my progress while continuing to go to the gym twice a week for strength and functional training.
