If I were to eat 1000 calories/per day (monitored by a doctor) and were to lose my weight quickly. Can I maintain my weight by eating for the new weight that I will be? For example, I am 250 and I want to lose 100 lbs. At 150 lbs I will need about 2045* calories for maintenance. IF I eat 18-1900 calories a day for the rest of my life after the “fad/VLCD” diet, could I keep it off? I am prepared to calorie count for the rest of my life.

  1. I just finished the two week test on Sunday (today is Wednesday). I have been following the Maffetone method for the last couple years and since this last spring have been following the high fat low carb diet fairly strictly. For the last two or so years i have been having issues with a consistent pain in my left foot. It’s not a point specific pain, instead it moves around the foot but is more regular on top where the foot flexes. I’ve seen a podiatrist (gave me a steroid shot… didn’t work at all), an applied kinesiologist (seemed cool and may have worked for other issues but not for my main issue), and a regular Dr. that didn’t know anything. A week into the 2 week test i went on a 6, 8 and a 10 mile run and had absolutely no pain whatsoever which I haven’t experienced for a very long time… Now, 3 days after the test (eaten an apple, coconut flour banana bread, cocoa powder with coconut oil and coconut palm oil) Nothing else has changed and today I ran 7 miles and have some pain back in my foot.

    Those supplements are just fine. The coconut water should be just fine as well, and the cacao powder is fine, as long as it has no added sugar.

    Understand that all calories count. You can ingest a significant amount of sugar and fat and not even know it. Learn to label read and understand all of the items in packaged foods, how they can help or harm you. Additives and preservatives all add up. This is not a calorie counting program but an attention to detail program. Being mindful of what you are consuming makes the difference.
