Hi! I am currently 1 week in to the 2 week test and am loving it – feeling so much more mindful of my eating and enjoying the food! I’m very active and a personal trainer but have tried to tone down my activity this week and plan to even more so next week. However, I’ve been feeling quite bloated in the evenings and have been gassy the last two days. I’ve been fairly regular in the mornings (although with a more fatty consistency!) so I’m wondering where this all coming from as most people seem to report that their bloated stomachs go down, gas disappears, etc. Any insight into how the Two Week Test might be affecting my system? Perhaps it’s the vegetables…definitely eating more than normal but I’m still not seeing any of the positive stomach aspects, haven’t lost any weight (although I take the scale with a grain of salt and don’t check it often) and have really followed the food list.

I’ve read The Big Book of Endurance Training and Racing and loved it. But my question is: while on long training runs of 10 miles+, what if any fueling options do you recommend during the 2-week test?

    Update: It’s now been 2 weeks off of the diet and counting macros is a lot harder than I thought it would be, though I’m seeing success. I’m down a total of 10 pounds now though I haven’t been very diligent on macros. I also haven’t gained my weight back either which is good. I’ll keep you updated.
    No. Our servings are simply designed to provide enough food for most people. If you feel satisfied and not hungry before finishing, it’s a great idea to stop. Especially if you want to lose weight, don’t eat more than you need to feel good.

    Thank-you for your reply. I am keen to continue with the MAF Method. I have now finished the two week test (which I extend to 3 weeks) and have now moved from a no carb diet to a low carb diet. No pasta,cereals or rice. Have re-introduced small quantities of potatoes and approx. 1-2 slices of low carb bread per week. Running has definitely improved since my last post My question is am I still training my body to burn fat or is this reintroduction of a small quantity of carbs (probably less than a quarter of what I ate prior to the MAF method) defeating the aim of burning fat? Any advice?

    It wasn’t a particularly stressful time and that was partly why I chose that time period. Day 1 – Public holiday – On call (phones only). Day 2 looking after young (baby) grandson, but that’s usual (1 day per week) – tiring but enjoyable. Followed by 2 not particularly busy workdays and then at the beach (holiday) for 3 days. I think I stopped the day after that.

    – I’d say stop the two-week test, get yourself regulated and with proper amounts of sleep (read: enough to not feel like you need sleep throughout the day), and then begin again with a lower (and lower-intensity) training load.

    I don’t watch the Dr. Oz show, but I happened upon this diet online. I read about it, I watched the show that was filmed about it, and I thought about it for a week and a half before I decided that I wanted to try it. I felt like it aligned with what I feel like healthy eating is. I don’t know much about Dr. Oz; I felt a little leery about putting too much stock in his doctor title because he’s a TV show host too, but the more I’ve read, the more I think he has some pretty sound ideas that he’s telling people. He really pushes whole foods and cutting out things like artificial sweeteners, wheat, and sugars, and that’s something I can get behind. I don’t know if everything he says should be taken to heart (because I literally don’t know what he is or isn’t telling people. Again, I don’t really watch the show), but all-in-all I think he has some sound ideas and principles behind his diets, programs, and shows. I do think the show tries to “sell” diets, results, and things that people want in order to get viewers to tune in, but that’s the advertising side of things and I can see that for what it’s worth. It’s still a business.

    Generally speaking, weightloss becomes a problem when it is associated with negative physiological symptoms. For example, many elite endurance athletes are that thin because they have aerobic systems that are so powerful that they burn fats at an extremely high rate. (And yes, they also go through a lot of muscle). But simply stated, if the body’s in perfect working order, then it’s in perfect working order.
