I understand that training 80% at MAF develops your aerobic system and by reducing processed carbs, sugars and increasing good fats you are training your body to use fat as it’s primary energy source. Is there anytime you would tap into blood glucose or muscle glycogen stores if you remained below or at MAF HR? Or is the point in becoming efficient to use more fat as energy and hence maintain your glycogen reserves for later in the race? Why does your body stop using fat as an energy source and switch to glycogen if you remain at or below MAF? Especially as you have pointed out your body stores unbelievable amounts of fat compared to glycogen (which also needs to be stored with water).

She says a moderate approach that boosts weight loss and comes without apparent side effects for the healthy individual is the 12-hour intermittent fasting approach. An example is having your first morning meal no earlier than 7 a.m. and your last evening meal no later than 7 p.m. Thus, 12 hours without food or caloric beverages consumed gives your body time to rest from eating and promotes fat burning without unnecessary hunger that daytime fasting can cause.
In one study, mice who ate within a 9- to 12-hour period put on less weight and had lower fat mass than mice who ate at all hours.[14] Another study found that obese people who ate 25% of their daily calories on one day, then ate normally the following day (aka alternate day fasting method), lost up to 13 pounds over an 8-week period.[15]

Thanks so much. This makes sense. What it is now is that I always feel super full. I, much like you, often do 2-a-day workouts (although now I’m in taper so not so much) so I tried to follow the breakdown of getting in enough calories at breakfast and lunch yesterday and today and haven’t quite gotten there, but have upped the fat/protein…BUT I feel super full all day! Like my stomach is distended, bloated and just, well, FULL! Might try skipping dinner tonight. Today is day 10 and was hoping to have had some relief in the stomach department but not so much. I had as of Saturday/Sunday but after Sunday’s indulgence, my stomach has been off again. My sleep, however, has been much improved the last two nights. I typically wake 1-2 hours after going to sleep every night, then wake up every 2 hours or so to go to the bathroom or snack or check my phone or whatever. The past two or three nights I have slept a solid 4-5 hours before waking to go to the bathroom, then go right back to sleep. So that’s been nice. Now if the stomach bloating/fullness/distention can get worked out!

Read other peoples stories I’ve been doing low heart rate running based on MAF for about 5 weeks now (avg, 65km/week). Recently i started the 2 week test and have followed it strictly. Prior to the TWT my normal average pace at MAF (145bpm) was 5:30min/km. However, since starting the TWT my pace keeps getting slower (i only did x3 10km runs in first week) average pace 5:58min/km first run and today 6:28min/km. I can run a 5k in about 19.5mins in current shape fyi. After i re-introduce some carbs can i expect my pace to improve? I have also dropped 3kg so far in the TWT (185cm started 79.5kg) and for last year train, either cycling or running 5-6days/week. Just seem to be going backwards!
