In some of the research I have done, I keep finding reference to protein being recommended as 20% or less of the macro ratio based on the glycogen stored in protein as well as how the body metabolizes protein (producing glycogen). Seems to suggest 70/15/15 or even 80/10/10. Wondering if you have any opinion or data on glycogen in protein (stored or metabolized)? Maybe keeping the carb ratio at 10% as you mentioned balances out with the 30% protein and glycogen generated there.

In the two weeks since I finished the TWT I have introduced some full fat yogurt (10%) and two small fruit servings per day. Last week I added quinoa. Didn’t notice any change from these additions. The only thing I have noticed is that I feel bloated from the high fat additions like cream, butter and sour cream. I have never reacted well to rich foods and this is just reaffirming it. I am willing to continue for another month with the addition of the additional fat but I have another 10 lbs to lose and have had no change in the scale in two weeks since finishing the TWT.

While your physical performance may be reduced, your overall metabolic ability has not “deteriorated.” Since the correct functioning of the metabolism hinges on the usage of fats for fuel, it is far more likely that your metabolic ability in general is increasing, bolstered by an adaptive challenge: that you are ingesting far less carbohydrates and it has to rely on a new fuel source.

As the theory goes, some foods take so much energy to digest that eating them actually burns more calories than the foods contain. Even if you do not burn calories eating these foods, though, you will not gain many calories from them, either.

This means that while you don’t need to go back to the TWT per se, you do need to adopt a diet that looks a lot more like the TWT than what you are eating now. For example, my diet is extremely high-fat all the time—I eat 80% of the way that the TWT suggests all the time, because that’s what works for me.
