Considering that only 1 in 10 Americans meet their produce requirements, it’s pretty safe to say you need to eat more veggies. And no matter what food philosophy you subscribe to, veggies are a big part of the program. Vegetables have a lot going for them: They fill you up for very few calories, and they flood your body with the nutrients it needs to fight diseases, like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.
Get moving. You may find that you don't need to cut calories as much as you need to get off your behind. Don't get stuck thinking you have to play a team sport or take an aerobics class to get exercise. Try a variety of activities from hiking to cycling to dancing until you find ones you like.
Cut down on sitting around. This means less TV, Internet, and other forms of screen time. Instead, aim for your "hour a day of active play."

The test has been a real struggle for me. I had mega cravings, then felt like I had the flu, low energy and now headaches! I’ve tried eating more food but then felt sick in the stomach… I’ve been eating combinations of: omeletes, spinach, nuts and seeds, cheese, bolognese on zoodles, salmon, salads and a little wine and coffee.

I was wondering if there was any preferential order for incorporating good foods prohibited during the test back into my diet. I know it’s a progression, one new food every other meal, but are there better foods to start with. I would like to go something like this: whole fat yogurt, berries, beans, cacao….. Does it matter? Do you recommend monitoring blood ketone levels to see what changes occur?

March 31, 2016 at 4:20 pm September 6, 2016 at 5:39 pm I’ve been feeling great on the foods from the TWT (for about 6 weeks now) and have begun adding in a very few new foods (beans, tomato sauce in minestrone – with no pasta, a bit of brown rice). One thing I found very helpful (and I think make me feel so good) with the TWT foods was keeping at the right ratio of good fats/protein/carbs (I am doing 70/20/10). As I begin to add more carbs to my diet I can only imagine that ratio will be harder to keep (unless I also start stuffing myself eating more fats and protein). Do you suggest a ratio of good fats/protein/carbs for after the TWT is completed? Thanks!

I see that smoked meats are out. I’m guessing this is meat that you purchased that are already pre-smoked because there is no guarantee that there isn’t sugar added. However, is smoking meat at home where you can assure that no sugar added allowed? I usually just season the meat with seasoned salt (will have to see if it contains sugar) and use wood chips to smoke the meat. It comes out really flavorful and would hate to have to give up this method of cooking my meat.
