That said, intervals and anaerobic training are sugar-fueled endeavors. We can’t get around that. So, what I do is (1) make sure that my metabolism likes fats better than it likes sugars, and (2) shift around my nutrient intake slightly so that it tends towards the kind of fuel I’m going to be using any given day.
