Carbs only last the body a couple of hours of exercise at most. In essence, this means that being an endurance athlete is all about burning fats. By hitching your endurance ability to burning carbs (which means that you need to fuel with carbs constantly during training and racing), you’ll reach a ceiling past which you cannot improve your endurance performance: the big gun of endurance performance (fat-burning) was never developed. But even when well-trained, there’s only so many times that the big gun of middle-distance running (sugar-burning) can re-fuel and keep going before it burns out.
Eat high-fiber foods to help you feel full. High-fiber foods include whole grains such as whole wheat, oats, barley, buckwheat, and brown and wild rice. Many fruits and vegetables also are good sources of fiber.
On the bright side, eating zero carb was less expensive than I expected. Meat is pricier than other types of food by volume, but also quite calorie-dense. My partner joined me for about half of the experiment, so I can't tell you exactly how much I spent on just me. However, I saved my receipts, so I can tell you that overall we spent $164.41 on animal products over the course of two weeks. (If that seems really extravagant to you, remember the high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area.) Some of the meat didn't get consumed and remains in our freezer.

She notes that if you enjoy going out to eat but try to commit to a diet that forbids you from ever going to a restaurant, you’re just going to cheat. “It’s not sustainable… You’re most likely going to have a healthier meal if you’re going to cook yourself, but you’re depriving yourself of that social interaction if you never go out.” To put it another way: Your eating practices shouldn’t isolate you or keep you from having fun.

Be aware of how much you are eating. If you're not sure how much is considered one serving, you can learn how to read labels. You also may eat less if you use a smaller plate. Try not to eat straight from a big package of food — it's easy to lose track that way. And if you're at a restaurant, see if you can take home some leftovers.

August 23, 2015 at 5:08 pm Butterfat definitely exists 🙂 It’s what collects at the top of the milk when you get it out of the cow. Whole, homogenized milk has the butterfat dissolved into the milk. Butterfat is also what you churn to get butter, and it’s where heavy cream comes from. So, if you don’t have access to a cow (or a local organic farm) use heavy cream instead.
