So basically keep yourself ticking over in training low carb (although the pace will be slower, and won’t be so energised), but when racing, after the first 30mins you can use carbs to give you the glycogen kick without affecting your fat burning engine? I can’t use gels as they upset my stomach and I hate them! I’ve used banana chips cooked in coconut oil for longer training runs, would you say this would be an appropriate food? They are highly calorific being high in carbs and fat so wouldn’t need that many over an ironman distance. If you think this is a bad choice can you give me some ideas for healthier non ‘sports specific’ alternatives.

Is this because fat and protein are such wonderful fuels? Did my body somehow intuit that it could use its stored resources of flab? (That would be a metabolic instinct my body never displayed before.) Was I merely responding to lower insulin levels? Beats me. I can report what I felt, but the exact reasons remain a mystery.

I completed the 2 week diet yesterday and lost 11 pounds. My main objective to do this was to improve my metabolism because how much ever i worked out the weight used to come back and was difficult to maintain or reduce further. So im eagerly looking for long term benefits….hope metabolism improves over a period of time. The diet itself was very easy to go through since on the 2nd day itself all the cravings and hunger was subsided. Felt healthy overall except for very few occasions felt bit tired. I ran (45mins) about 7 times over a period of 2 weeks. Even after completing the 2 weeks i dont have the previous strong urge to eat cabro now. I feel lot healthier now and would like to go through the diet again in next few months. I have a marathon in Dec and want to loose another 12 to 14 pounds by then. The reason that protein shakes are out is twofold: first, they usually contain an important amount of sugar, and they are usually quite processed. Nutrasweet is a very bad chemical that should be avoided by everyone under virtually all circumstances. It is also counterproductive since the sweetener causes the brain to expect to receive glucose. When it doesn’t, cravings for sugar/carbs and feelings of hunger typically increase.
Hi, not sure what happened to my last question. I just wanted to know if I blew the test by drinking a glass of chocolate milk after a long ride.
