Hair Dairy: 1 cup of 2% plain Greek yogurt per day (otherwise no dairy) – I couldn’t find 2% at our little store, so for the first few days I used nonfat. But I was feeling super hungry, so I started mixing the whole milk plain with the nonfat and was much happier. This was actually harder to incorporate than I thought. If I were making falafel and tzatziki sauce or was having chili, then I could eat it in those things. If I didn’t have a recipe on my meal plan where I could add the Greek yogurt easily, then I would add it to my smoothie in the morning (delicious!). It was too hard to just eat plain and I didn’t like it as a vegetable dip that other people might do (too sour). I’m pretty sure that the yogurt is there for the probiotics as well as some calcium, so I didn’t feel like it really mattered when in the day I was eating it.
I really appreciate your time and support this far. Many thanks for your latest reply, I read it Dec 17, so finished the TWT, plus three days. With one exception, I continued to train at sub-MAF, scaling back to walking where necessary ( which was / is very regularly ) – for e.g., I tried to train MAF-method this morning, but canned it after a 15-minute failed to bring HR readings back within MAF, reflecting fatigue.

But, even extreme plans that seem to work for a while are fraught with trouble.

I think I’ve got it now! So basically keep yourself ticking over in training low carb (although the pace will be slower, and won’t be so energised), but when racing, after the first 30mins you can use carbs to give you the glycogen kick without affecting your fat burning engine? I can’t use gels as they upset my stomach and I hate them! I’ve used banana chips cooked in coconut oil for longer training runs, would you say this would be an appropriate food? They are highly calorific being high in carbs and fat so wouldn’t need that many over an ironman distance. I’m in favor of any program that promotes whole foods over hyper-processed fare, and this is one thing the popular diet plans can agree on. Overly processed foods have been linked to weight gain, perhaps because many unhealthy packaged foods (think: potato chips, ice cream, frozen pizza, cookies and the like) lack the fiber found in many whole foods, including vegetables. Fiber helps fill us up, and research suggests that by simply adding more fiber to your menu, you can lose weight nearly as well as a more complicated approach. Consistently choosing whole foods is one way to do this.
I have successfully completed my 15 day test today. As I am vegetarian for my protein requirements, I want to take Whey protein. Is this advisable, if yes, what is your suggestion?
