I was able to maintain my training though at the lower intensity suggested by the MAF method. I would not wish to sustain this style of menu in the longer term as a result of my more melancholy mood state that seemed to pervade on this style of diet. I had always intended adding back in un-refined carbs. To check my tolerance. I’m pleased to say I feel much better once again.

These signs and symptoms are typically not worrisome. The reason your MAF pace falls during the TWT is because during regular aerobic exercise, the body fuels itself with both fats and sugars. But when there are very few sugars in the tank, your MAF pace represents only the amount of fats you consume–so it’s slower. This doesn’t mean you are “getting slower”: once the test ends and you begin introducing carbohydrates into your diet, your body will begin to use both fuels again, and your speed will reflect that.

Hi Ivan! We just finished the two week test and are feeling pretty darn good. I, however, am scared to add carbs back in. I want to be careful about falling into old patterns. This morning I had those almond flour pancakes…..with a little bit of honey drizzled over. Wow! That was so delicious. 🙂
In two weeks, I lost 8 pounds. I even had a few really hard days and didn’t eat as well as I could have. I think I would have lost closer to 10 pounds if I would have done as well the second week as I did the first. I know that some of that weight is water weight (when I don’t eat grains, I’m much less bloated, so some of it is water weight for sure), so if I were to eat whatever I wanted now that it’s over, I would gain back at least half that weight in just a few days. That being said, this was a great jumpstart to losing my baby weight. It was the springboard that I needed to continue to diet to lose more weight.
