July 6, 2018 at 9:15 am I know that processed meats are on the no list. Additionally I see that meat sticks and salami are called out specifically. My question is…Are these totally off limits even if they are minimally processed high quality with no added sugars? For instance I’m looking at a hard salami with no carbs and a high fat content. I’m also interested in a pepperoni with the same properties. Jump up ^ Sarnes, E; Crofford, L; Watson, M; Dennis, G; Kan, H; Bass, D (Oct 2011). So I didn’t eat the potato salad, baked beans, or cake, but I did have a burger on a lettuce bun with gauc and felt totally satisfied. It was great. 46 2. Tracking your diet and exercise Carbo loading generally speaking isn’t a good idea (there’s plenty of research to say that it doesn’t do much). Stayed true to the two week test and increased it to three weeks leading up to my 14th full marathon since 2005. The performance of my last two marathons (both in Summer of 2015) were disappointing. My times were getting slower and I was feeling horrible at the end of them. My PR days of 3:37 marathon (2007) are over and I’m OK with that but I run marathons to keep fit and feel good with an overall goal of running under 4:30. When I finished these last two feeling like crap and both significantly slower than 4:30, I knew I had to find a change and that’s was just about when I was finishing Chris McDougal’s book, Natural Born Heroes. I followed the guidance (from the book and this website) to include running/training at 180 minus my age (46 years young) and on January 17th 2016 I ran the Arizona Rock and Roll Marathon. I was downright nervous to run my first carb/sugar free marathon……. so many unknowns….. What did the MAF technique allow me to do?….. for the first time in 14 total full marathons I was able to 1) maintain my same pace from start to finish 2) mentally and physically feel tremendous the entire race and 3) felt great afterwards/to include recovery and this was running the race without even a sip of gatorade… just sipped water when I felt thirsty and I broke 4:30 meeting my goals. I have my next marathon in mid February in Austin and I continue to practice the principles of this new way of looking at nutrition. I love the fact that I can eat as much meat, cheese, eggs, veggies, nuts and even whiskey! Oh ,one more thing, I did not start this technique to ‘lose weight’… On January 1st 2016, I was a fit 220lb muscular clydesdale marathoner and 25 days later I’m at 208lbs and feel stronger than ever. Life is good and THANK YOU! Reduce your appetite significantly. January 11, 2016 at 7:20 pm How do I keep weight off? Increase fruits and vegetables in your diet. You will end up eating fewer calories which is a key strategy for weight loss and maintenance. Don't expect to lose weight quickly. Losing about one to two pounds a week is a healthy rate of weight loss. If you are taking extreme steps to lose weight faster, you will probably gain most or all of it back. Yes No Here’s an extra pro tip. One study showed that dieters who drank 2 cups of water about 20 minutes before each meal lost more weight than those who didn’t. Researchers believe that water helps increase your sense of fullness before eating, meaning you have better control over portion size. You can even favor cold water over room-temperature water for an extra boost. When you drink cold water, your body spends about 8 calories per cup to warm it up to your body temperature. For clarification on your answer, how does whole, organic milk fit in? Still too low in cream content? Willing to go whole hog on this TWT; just clarifying. The reason I’m asking is that I need to stop using all dairy for some time as Dr. Phil suggests. The 2 week test improved many, many of my symptoms and I felt quite great. Although I was eating very few carbohydrates before, the test was hard to me. I wasn’t able to quench my hunger and had terrible headaches in the first week. During the second week the symptoms from the first week disappeared but eventually I’ve started suffering from another issues related to my gut. I suspect it’s because of too many dairy mainly the Camembert (125g/day) that might have impact on my gut bacteria. After the test I wasn’t even able to tolerate very small amount of even medium glycemic food so I’m nourishing like during the test (6 weeks now). But as the time passes I’m feeling more fatigued and my gut problems seems to be bigger now. Make bigger lots: double the serving size and then save what’s left for lunch the next day. Now you only need to cook once per day! Other questions I have are about types of vinegar. Are all or most suitable? Some of Dr. Maffetone’s recipes include rice wine vinegar. But there are sugars in this? In Japan where I live there’s a ton of Mirin, nearly every dish contains it, but on the packaging it says per 15ml there is 6-9g of carbs in it. Is this still okay? The reason that your speed has improved commensurate to your introduction of carbs is not because you have been “getting fitter,” but rather because you are enabling the use of your body’s “carb-burning engine” in that measure. So, it’s not that you are a minute per mile slower, but rather that your fat burning engine can only produce energy at a rate that allows you to run at a speed that is one minute per mile slower.
