Started the TWT today, but am scheduled for a 4 hour swim next Friday (I am a marathon swimmer) and wondering if you have any suggestions to keep my glycogen levels up during the swim that would be consistent with the TWT?

I’m a BELIEVER! Stayed true to the two week test and increased it to three weeks leading up to my 14th full marathon since 2005. The performance of my last two marathons (both in Summer of 2015) were disappointing. My times were getting slower and I was feeling horrible at the end of them. My PR days of 3:37 marathon (2007) are over and I’m OK with that but I run marathons to keep fit and feel good with an overall goal of running under 4:30. When I finished these last two feeling like crap and both significantly slower than 4:30, I knew I had to find a change and that’s was just about when I was finishing Chris McDougal’s book, Natural Born Heroes. I followed the guidance (from the book and this website) to include running/training at 180 minus my age (46 years young) and on January 17th 2016 I ran the Arizona Rock and Roll Marathon. I was downright nervous to run my first carb/sugar free marathon……. so many unknowns….. What did the MAF technique allow me to do?….. for the first time in 14 total full marathons I was able to 1) maintain my same pace from start to finish 2) mentally and physically feel tremendous the entire race and 3) felt great afterwards/to include recovery and this was running the race without even a sip of gatorade… just sipped water when I felt thirsty and I broke 4:30 meeting my goals. I have my next marathon in mid February in Austin and I continue to practice the principles of this new way of looking at nutrition. I love the fact that I can eat as much meat, cheese, eggs, veggies, nuts and even whiskey! Oh ,one more thing, I did not start this technique to ‘lose weight’… On January 1st 2016, I was a fit 220lb muscular clydesdale marathoner and 25 days later I’m at 208lbs and feel stronger than ever. If you care what I think, my default advice is to use your diet to cause fat loss (meaning set the deficit by eating a little less than you currently do), and use weight training to maintain (or increase) muscle and strength. Cardio and/or metabolic training are completely optional.

I checked the ingredients. It only contains pure coconut tap and salt. But I do see “2g sugar” (out of 2 tsp) from the label. It should be the natural sugar from the coconut tap. Is it ok for TWT?
Thanks for the thoughtful response! I was particularly stressed out last week and got overly worried about the test. But I distressed a lot over the weekend and stuck it through and am very happy with the results! I have not been getting bloated/nauseated/discomfort after eating all week.

December 30, 2017 at 8:59 am Hi, am thinking about starting the 2 weeks test. But have a few questions remaining. What about unsweetened soya/ almond milk? Can that be taken? And then there is only one more approved weight loss drug left. Fortunately this one actually shows a lot of promise and can speed up weight loss quite significantly.

Is there just not enough carrot juice in it to make it count or should I stay away from it? Also, are tomatoes allowed? I see them in the recipes and tomato juice is on the approved list but actual tomatoes aren’t mentioned (or I missed it). I also thought I saw salsa in a recipe but earlier you said no to salsa.
