I have been consistently training for and running marathons for just short of 3 years now. Things have been going pretty well for me. I occasionally have an injury but it isn’t from overuse/overtraining as much as it is from general clumsiness (falling and twisting an ankle for example). I do not think I suffer from any real carb intolerance and fueling for races has worked fine for me this way. I’m curious if it is worth going through this difficult process and transitioning to this nutrition if I haven’t really had issues with my current nutrition?

Hello, just starting the TWT and see some cross-over between the book and the comment section here. Suggested snacks in the book include celery with cream cheese but the cream cheese sounds like a non-starter in the comment section. As well, the book suggests ricotta cheese is ok – no mention in the comment section about ricotta.
January 5, 2017 at 10:04 pm Thanks for commenting. The reason that protein shakes are out is twofold: first, they usually contain an important amount of sugar, and they are usually quite processed. Nutrasweet is a very bad chemical that should be avoided by everyone under virtually all circumstances. It is also counterproductive since the sweetener causes the brain to expect to receive glucose. When it doesn’t, cravings for sugar/carbs and feelings of hunger typically increase.

Having a body mass index over 30 places you at risk for developing obesity-related medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease. I run anywhere from 15-30 miles per week depending on the time of year, don’t usually train for anything longer than a half marathon to 15-16 mile race. I’ve never really had symptoms of carb intolerance but have wanted to try the two week test to help my body transition to more fat burning while I’m running. I have been using the 180 method off and on (mostly on) for the past year and had good results getting my per mile pace down to 10 to 11 min miles. (Until I go no-carb and then my HR goes crazy on my runs and I have to go back to 14 min miles)

My question is what sort of ideal Macro breakdown would you typically have on the TWT and also what sort of macro breakdown would you aim for post test on a continuing basis. Prior to the test I would typically consume approx 170-200 g Carbs, 50-60g fat and 80-100g protein. (Aiming for 40% Carbs, 25% fat and 35% protein.) On the TWT and on a typical MAF Lo carb /high fat diet what % Macros should I be aiming for?
