After I graduated from high school, I went to community college and started working. I was so excited to feel independent and on my own, but then my grandma became really sick and she passed away. So…that being said, I’ve added hard boiled eggs to a morning and afternoon snack today (in a spinach / kale / bell pepper smoothie), and felt a more sustained energy. I’ll admit being a carb junky for my whole life. Would my heavy legs still be a result of my body fighting my kicking the heavy carb / sugar habit? What advice would you give for someone having a tough time on the eating front? I’d love to know of a group where I could talk with someone over the phone or in person to better understand what’s going on with me…I know from he super-sleepy night(s) that I’ve had after a carb-reaction that this is the way – I just want to find a way to make what I’m doing last. I was in good physical condition when I started and was fairly used to doing long runs without necessairly eating anything before. But I did enjoy bread, pasta, rice, tortillas, chips, oatmeal, granola, the occasional apple pie, and so on. So I’m pleased to cut back on that. I’m not a vegetarian but I ate meat sparingly, enjoying beans and lentils often for proteins, fiber, vitamins. Since I started the test I’ve been eating a LOT more meat, and I’m finding that a bit hard. I just don’t enjoy eating that much meat (and I worry about what it means for heart health). Have also been eating a lot of cheese too, to help fill up (and to keep up the fat intake–aged, hard cheeses, or goat, brie). Also eating plenty of vegetables too. But it’s just hard to fill up on veggies (with potatotes, beans, and other things aren’t allowed) when you’re running 30 miles a week or so. Anyway, what I’m ultimately wondering is, What next after the test? Beans and lentils are definitely coming back, and an oatmeal/porridge breakfast never seemed like such a bad thing. (Hard to imagine life without pasta or pizza too.) In sum, I’m keen to keep training my body to burn fat on runs, and to break sugar and carb dependence, but what’s what’s the ultimate place of wheat, gluten, pasta, grains, beans, lentils, dairy (or beer, for that matter), in a healthy, efficient runner’s diet?
