I just wanted to say that I got a chance to beta test the new app (although it was only for about a week as I was late applying). Even though it told me my MAF score was poor, I liked it and am excited for when it is fully released on the app store. Any word on when that may happen? I can’t tell you how disappointed I was the day that I opened the app and it told me the beta testing had expired! I am, however, looking forward to an improved MAF score when I try again in a couple weeks!

Diet I’ve completed the 2 week test, to an extent (I’ve left moderate amount of berries, cherries and a teaspoon of honey once daily in my diet). During this period I’ve lost 6-7 lbs, with good energy levels and eating untill full at every meal. My background as far as activities go: I’m an ultramarathoner and my typical training would be: 5 days running weekly mostly on trails, with 2 long runs on weekends (anywhere from 3-6 hours sessions). After following the 2 week test, my speed has suffered, but that is to be expected.
On this plan, you can eat good food until you’re full and still lose a ton of fat. Welcome to paradise. Stay away from soy protein based stuff because of the processing. Beetroot has a fair amount of starches (depending where you read) but it has a high glycemic index anyway. Stay away from it during the TWT.

If the MAF HR (as per the 180-formula) corresponds to the point of burning 50% fats and 50% carbs, could a very high carb, low fat diet cause the "true MAF HR" to be even lower? Perhaps in this case, the person would be burning 55% carbs and 45% fats at the 180-formula HR? Likewise, maybe the opposite way around for someone with very low carbs, in a ketogenic state?

I love your website and your articles. I struggle just to maintain my weight let alone lose weight. I am currently between 60kg -62kg (132-136pounds) and 160cm tall. I am not overweight but I am not at a great weight. As I am trying to lose weight I know the only way is to create a deficit. I am eating at around 1300kcal a day and I am hungry most of the time, if I am miscalculating and in fact am more like eating around 1600kcal a day, then 1. why am I putting on weight? Shouldnt I just be maintaining? And 2. how the hell do people get by on less than 1300kcal a day, when I do that strictly I feel sick and hangry all the time.
