As long as you are training at the MAF heart rate, you are training at the right intensity for an endurance event. (And, since training intensity is a function of heart rate, and not of pace or speed, it doesn’t matter what speed you’re going at. As long as you keep to the MAF heart rate, you’re developing the aerobic engine as effectively as you possibly can).
