Day 9 5,041,256 I am training for an ultra marathon in March, and I just switched over to Dr. Maffetone’s training method on December 20th. I am 6’1 190 pounds which is heavy for me. I know my diet is loaded with carbs and sugars. I feel great during my long runs 15 miles + using honey and water. I know the 2 week test is recommended for the off season, so what would you suggest I do? For example, I know to cut out processed flours and refined sugars, but what do you suggest for carbs? I need to lose weight, but I want to healthily. I have already seen an improvement in my MAF after 11 days. It is still an adjustment running slower, but my legs feel much better.

Since you’re getting a different mixture of fats and carbs during the TWT than during a normal diet, your MAF test scores will not be representative of your usual speed. I’d say to wait until you’ve figured out your carb situation, and then do it. (If it takes you 2 days to figure this out, then you can do a MAF test then).

Last Update August 31 Mavis, California im not sure where to go from here, im on my 4th day of zero running and normally i would recover from a run of 10-20k overnight,20-30k in a day, a 50k takes me 4days to fully recover from. Im 4 days into rest now and my legs feel heavier i think than before so i dont know if rest is fixing me and im at a loss at what to do, my diet is totally changed and im not getting the “ah ha” moment everyone raves about with low carb either so i think the new diet is good but its not the cause of my fatigue either.
