by Eric Bach | Yesterday Planning to start on 2nd January 2018 I do dumbell (17kg each) presses (so I don’t end up strangled by the barbell like many fools do on youtube), barbell (26kg) curls (because I can use the barbell for the squats as well), dumbbell one arm rows (because I have scoliosis and the doctor’s recommendation of swimming to strengthen my back muscles is not an option at the moment) and front barbell squats (just so my legs don’t fall behind – in the veeery long run; also, I switched from dumbbell squats to barbell squats because the dumbbell ones were constantly injuring my left shoulder).
– Last time I did the test, I drank the low-sodium V8. I want to say it was listed as a “yes” juice (I never would have picked it up otherwise, as I’m not a fan). Now, however, I just see “vegetable juice”; in the QA, someone asked if it was OK and you said it was a “no” food. If V8 is NOT allowed, what is considered “vegetable juice”?

Seniors Thanks for your comment. For liability reasons, we can’t give direct recommendations on a medical issue. But take note of our general guidelines: the ultimate answer is to reduce carbohydrate intolerance. By doing so, fluctuations in blood sugar should become less and less common as time goes on.

I do not react well, to pharmaceutical and have a spread sheet of food sensitivities, including all forms of chemical preservatives.

One final recommendation is to fully reconsider your mental approach to training: here I’m homing in on the word “struggle.” Struggling—even when you’re talking about struggling to burn fats—implies an increase in effort, an increase in stress, and an increase in anaerobic function. And stress, even when it’s not physical, counts towards your anaerobic function. If I snuck up behind you and startled you, your body would start burning energy anaerobically in anticipation of fight-or-flight, even if you hadn’t started moving yet. So, when you “struggle” to burn fats, the preoccupation itself (and the mental stress it implies) may be increasing your anaerobic function from a psychological direction, and preventing you from developing your aerobic system, burning fats, and losing weight.

That’s perfectly fine. Your comment sounds to me like the test itself may be a stressful experience to you. (I’m speaking aside from what eating the foods are doing to your body). Because of the way the body responds to stress, stress itself can be a contributing condition to weight gain, poor aerobic function, and carbohydrate intolerance. It might be the case that the deterioration is in part due to the “fear” that you mention at eating high-fat foods. Simply stated, nuts, avocado, and olive oil were never the reasons someone got fat—they were always the reasons that someone’s appetite became quite well-regulated. But if the test is becoming stressful to you, stop. Don’t do it.

Thank you for the comment! I’ve been thinking about going back to this kind of long term and I think it is a lot like the Mediterranean diet which does include more fruit and things. Counting macros hasn’t been working very well for me, so I think I might try this other route. This diet with a little fruit and some eggs would be perfect for me! I can’t wait to hear how it goes!
