There is conflicting information in both the comments and the article regarding cashews and pumpkin specifically. They are listed as both okay and not okay in different spots. Can I get a final ruling on these? I do the meal planning and cooking (as well as coaching) for my wife and I don’t want to short change her on the benfits from the TWT.

I have just started the TWT. Are mushrooms allowed? Fasting excellent. I would still put my money on a lack of sleep and excess exercise (especially high intensity exercise) as the big stress contributors to a poor TWT experience. I also tend to relate the extreme difficulty in maintaining a below-MAF HR during exercise to the state of your aerobic system. If going on the two-week test again “cold turkey” is too burdensome (which is totally legitimate) then why not try to work up to a TWT-analogous diet by removing a carbohydrate food from your diet every day or every other day.

I have seen both yes and no to this on the above comments, so I am wondering if 100% coconut water in a can is OK?
Background: I exercise on regular basis, as far as eating habits: I drink mostly water, I havent had a soda in probably 5 years, I drink alcohol once or twice one week. . I ate a salad everyday and fruit everyday. My dinner would be high carb as it usually was a rice or beans with chicken or tacos or potatoes (with salad). I ate red meat maybe twice a month. I occasionally ate breakfast (fruit mainly) and lunch was usually vegetarian subs or a sandwich from the local deli. Oh and I did have a desert or some kind of sugar treat every day (like a hershey bar or cupcake)… But Im not craving any candy, just would like to have some rice or tortillas…
I absolutely love your site. I am 51 years old and have spent years following the bull-shit fad diets, gimmicks, quick-fixes, etc to weight loss. I have always lost weight then just re-gained it plus some. I have been following your advice for the last 10 weeks and have lost 20 pounds by creating a calorie deficit like you have explained. I set a goal on how much I need to lose and it really has been easy sticking to it. I have cut out a lot of the high-fat/caloric foods that I used to eat and eat healthier because that is my preference, but it is foods that I love to eat and can live with eating the rest of my life. I have not began the cardio exercising yet, but do plan on it in a couple more months. I have some problems with plantar faciitis and some back problems that make weight bearing exercises painful. I believe losing weight will also help with these problems so right now my goal is to lose fat (I still have about 90 pounds to go to reach my goal). My husband decided to make some changes also, but he has also incorporated strength training in his daily routines and has already seen a huge difference in the way he feels, the way his body looks and the rise in his energy level. He is only 10 pounds away from his goal and doing great. Again, thank you so much for your publications. We think it is awesome and have recommended it to anyone who has commented our weight loss.
