Great article! Waiting for a whole fatloss book! If you've been on a diet more than once, you know that it can be harder to maintain weight than to lose weight in the first place. share
In some of the research I have done, I keep finding reference to protein being recommended as 20% or less of the macro ratio based on the glycogen stored in protein as well as how the body metabolizes protein (producing glycogen). Seems to suggest 70/15/15 or even 80/10/10. Wondering if you have any opinion or data on glycogen in protein (stored or metabolized)? Maybe keeping the carb ratio at 10% as you mentioned balances out with the 30% protein and glycogen generated there.
17 Responses September 21, 2016 at 5:57 pm So how much should you eat at each meal? Begin by keeping in mind that there is no one definition of a serving size. With both the Food Pyramid and Nutrition Facts labels, the serving size is simply a unit of measure and may not represent the amount you are really eating. For example, an English muffin represents two Food Pyramid servings of bread, despite the fact that the Nutrition Facts label on the package defines a serving as one muffin.
I second this. An article on this would be very nice and helpful. What’s the problem with using a microwave?
Yes. I’m currently done with week 1 and feel very anxious and tired. I believe it’s my body going through carb/sugar withdrawal. One more week!

I would say that if 3-4 consecutive weeks have passed with no change in weekly body weight averages or measurements, it’s time to adjust your calorie intake down (or calorie output up… or both).
There’s a good reason you won’t see many fast-food restaurants decorated in blue: it functions as an appetite suppressant. So serve up dinner on blue plates, dress in blue while you eat, and cover your table with a blue tablecloth. Conversely, avoid red, yellow, and orange in your dining areas. Studies find they encourage eating.

Training…I can’t take off training for the next two weeks as I have a 120mile stage race in 2 months, also I’m starting to use the MAHR in my training and agree that the hardest part is being patient since to keep my MAHR I have had to significant drop my pace! Interestingly i’ve had to bump up my pace a bit on the bike already to keep at the MAHR! Anyways, what I’m wondering is do you have recommendations for an acceptable nutrition plan on long run days during this two weeks, I used to use gels for anything above 1.5hr and would eat something like bananas for pre and post snack. And lastly, I’ve seen people say the trained below MAHR for 70-80-90% of their runs training for a marathon and had significant improvements in their times…I wondered if Phil recommends a strategy for endurance events? Does he feel all runs should be below MAHR, a majority mixed with a day or two of sprints or goal pace running?? I’m just trying to figure out how people came up with their ratio of training mix! Thanks so much for any input you can provide! I’m getting the book, but am not a fast reader so wanted to see if I could get some quick answers 🙂

Flip Eliane: Staying Safe 2) Once you’ve developed an aerobic base, 20% of your total athletic activity (training+racing) should be anaerobic. This means: if you’re running 1 marathon every 2 months (lets round this down to 25 miles) and a healthy bi-monthly aerobic mileage is 160 miles, then you can do 15 miles of anaerobic workouts (well-distributed) across that 2 month period. Do bi-weekly MAF tests to see if your aerobic base is deteriorating. If it is, immediately return to aerobic-only training for a while.

I am on day 7 of the test. I have never gone so low in carbs even when I am trying to practice LCHF for two years. Still my weight has dropped only 1kg after a week. I used to blame bloating and flatulence on carbs but I still have bloating after eating only TWT diet. Does it mean I am carb tolerant? Or I am not following TWT properly? Or it is too early to conclude?
Although my pace is slowly improving, why am I still over a minute per mile slower than when I did the test? Started the TWT today, but am scheduled for a 4 hour swim next Friday (I am a marathon swimmer) and wondering if you have any suggestions to keep my glycogen levels up during the swim that would be consistent with the TWT?
Also, I am vegetarian and would find it very useful if there was a comprehensive list of vegetables. Would you mind posting something to that effect? Advocate Conditions
